ROAD AMERICA – ROUND 11 – QUALIFYING

Philip Major Awarded Round 11 Pole

Elkhart Lake, Wis. – Aug. 9, 2007… 18-year old Philip Major (Autotecnica), of Ottawa, Canada, will start on the pole for Round 11 of the 2007 Formula BMW USA Championship, his best starting position in his two years of competition. Formula BMW Germany Junior and Rookie Adrien Tambay (Eurointernational) will start on the outside of the front row and Alexander Rossi (Team Apex Racing USA) moves up to the third starting position.

Rookie points leader Esteban Gutierrez was disqualified following post-qualifying inspection. Gutierrez’s lap of 2:19.708 minutes around the 4.048-mile, 14-turn Road America circuit bested Major (2:20.100) by .392 seconds, but his disqualification will have him start at the rear of the grid.

“I think it is a great result for the whole team, we have been working for it all year. I am glad that this year we can finally show what we are capable of. This track is a classic, from the first track walk, I knew I would like it here,” said first time pole sitter Philip Major.

Tambay commented, “It is unfortunate for Esteban, but I am now second place and will do my best to overtake Philip and take first place. It has been good, the track was slippery with the rubber from Star Mazda and I could have been better but it is fine like this for the race,”

Round 12 qualifying is scheduled for 11:45 – 12:15 p.m. Friday. The Round 11 race will start at 10:50 a.m. Saturday and Round 12 will start at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
