RED BULL'S MATT JASKOL WINS FORMULA BMW USA AT UNITED STATES GP

Indianapolis, IN (20 June 2004)—The American national anthem was played at a Formula 1 event for the second consecutive weekend when Red Bull Junior Team racer Matt Jaskol won round six of the Formula BMW USA championship at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as part of the United States Grand Prix weekend. Jaskol also won round four, held at the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend.

The win continues to prove the strength of the Red Bull Driver Search, a program that discovered Jaskol and fellow Red Bull Junior Teammate Scott Speed, who is now leading both the Eurocup and German Formula Renault Championships.

“This win was a gift for my Dad, who was here today on Father’s Day, and it was one of the best feelings I have ever had in my racing career. I got out of my car, ran on the track and kissed the yard of bricks here at the Speedway!”

The 2004 Red Bull Driver Search program aims to discover and support the "diamond in the rough," lacking the knowledge and contacts needed to embark on a career in racing, as well as talented young drivers already in racing. The long-term goal is to have a steady group of three to six American drivers racing in Europe, groomed to break into Formula 1 and compete for the World Championship.

JASKOL TAKES MONTREAL WIN

Red Bull Junior Team making strides on two continents

New York, NY (13 June 04)--Red Bull Junior Team racer Matt Jaskol marked another new benchmark in Red Bull Junior Team history as he won round four of the Formula BMW USA championship at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on Sunday. The podium celebrations marked the first time the American national anthem has been played in front of a Formula 1 crowd since 1978.

While Jaskol’s compatriots have been working hard to make an impression in Europe, Jaskol has the same mission here in the States, and he made the most of the opportunity to impress the Formula 1 paddock this weekend, moving from fifth at the start to emerge with the win after the twelve-lap event.

Jaskol, who came just a handful of laps from winning the debut race of the category before his car cruelly stopped running while he was in the lead, was convinced that he was going to win, radioing his crew after moving up to third place just a few laps into the race “we are going to win this race!”

His team tried to keep him calm on the radio, but Jaskol kept at work to make his prediction come true, and a few laps later he made a decisive pass for the lead before motoring off to a four-second win.

“We were so determined to get a win here after the disappointment at Lime Rock,” Jaskol said. “’I have to win’ was the mindset, and we were confident we could do well, but then we struggled in qualifying, and even though we got on the podium in the first race yesterday, it wasn’t the right spot, so we had to just buckle down to get the win today. It’s really so exciting, and I am hungry for the next one!”

MATT JASKOL MAKES FORMULA BMW DEBUT

New York, NY (1 June 04) - Red Bull Junior Team racer Matt Jaskol got his race season underway this weekend in the double-race debut event for Formula BMW USA at Lime Rock Park. Jaskol netted the pole position for the first race and was leading when he suffered electrical problems and was forced to accept a 12th place finish.

The second race of the weekend again saw the Las Vegas youngster starting from the pole position, but he was unable to protect the lead and finished in second, as his car didn’t have the pace to take the win. The win-stealing gremlins in Jaskol’s FBMW forced his Autotecnica team to do a thorough check of the car, leaving little time to optimize the set-up for the second race.

“The team worked very hard to change every sensor in the car to try to fix our electrical problem so we did not have the time to work on the race trim,” Jaskol said. “With today’s condition changes we did not have the straight-line speed we needed and I had to settle for second. With two poles we have shown that we have the speed to win, but it was just not our weekend.”

The race weekend leaves him in fifth place in the overall points championship as the series heads North to race in support of the Canadian Grand Prix on 11-13 June.
